Lost Access to Your Peanut Account?
Peanut is a self-custody wallet. This means only you control your account — the Peanut team cannot recover your passkey or reset your access. Your passkey is your key to your wallet. If it is backed up through iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, you can restore access on a new device. If it is not backed up and your device is lost, your funds cannot be recovered.
Important
Try to Recover Access
- 1
Check cloud passkey sync
Your passkey may have synced to another device automatically. Apple users: check another Apple device signed into the same iCloud account — go to Settings → Passwords → search for "Peanut". Android users: check another device signed into the same Google account — go to Settings → Google → Password Manager → search for "Peanut". If you find the passkey, go to peanut.me and log in.
- 2
Try the original device or browser
If you still have the device where you created your account, try opening peanut.me in the same browser. The passkey prompt should appear. Make sure biometrics (Face ID, fingerprint) or screen lock are enabled.
- 3
Check a replacement device
If you set up a new phone with the same Apple ID or Google account, your passkey may have transferred automatically. Try logging in at peanut.me on the new device.
If None of These Work
If your passkey did not sync and you no longer have the original device, your wallet cannot be recovered. This is the tradeoff of self-custody — only you hold the keys.
Your options:
- Create a new Peanut account on your current device. You will need to verify your identity again.
- Enable cloud backup immediately on the new account to prevent this from happening again. Go to Profile → Backup in the app for step-by-step instructions.
Common Scenarios
Lost or Stolen Phone
If your passkey synced via iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, you can log in from another device with the same cloud account. If it did not sync, the wallet cannot be recovered.
Important
Switched from iPhone to Android (or Vice Versa)
Passkeys do not sync between Apple and Google ecosystems. If you are switching platforms: while you still have both devices, create a new account on the new device and transfer your funds from the old one. If you already lost access to the old device, the wallet cannot be recovered. Third-party password managers like 1Password can sync passkeys across platforms — consider using one.
Cleared Browser Data
Your passkey is stored in your device's keychain, not in the browser. Clearing browser data should not delete it. Try navigating to peanut.me — the passkey login prompt should appear. If it does not, check Settings → Passwords on your device.
Broken or Damaged Device
If your device is broken but you had cloud backup enabled (iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), set up a new device with the same cloud account. Your passkey should sync automatically.
