How Do I Verify My Peanut Account?

Upload a photo of your passport or national ID card and confirm your personal details — most users are verified automatically in under 2 minutes. No local ID required. Verification unlocks bank deposits, bank withdrawals, QR payments, and Faster Payments in the app. This page walks you through each step, explains exactly what data is collected, and covers what to do if something goes wrong.

What Requires Verification (and What Does Not)

Not everything in the app requires verification. Here is a breakdown:

No verification needed:

  • Browsing the app and viewing exchange rates
  • Depositing or withdrawing digital dollars to and from external wallets

Verification required:

  • Bank deposits (SEPA, ACH, Faster Payments, SPEI)
  • Bank withdrawals
  • QR payments (Mercado Pago in Argentina, Pix in Brazil)
  • Cash ATM withdrawals

No local ID is required anywhere. You do not need a DNI in Argentina, a CPF in Brazil, an SSN in the United States, or any other country-specific identification to start verification. A passport or national ID from any country is sufficient.

Verify Your Account

  1. 1

Open the app and tap Verify

You will see this prompt when you try to use a feature that requires verification, such as a bank deposit or QR payment. Choose your region — this determines which payment methods are unlocked.

  2. 2

Take a photo of your document

Select your document type (passport, national ID, driver's license, or residence permit). Hold the document flat on a solid background with good lighting. Make sure all four corners are visible and text is readable. Avoid glare and shadows.

  3. 3

    Confirm your personal details

You will be asked to confirm your name, date of birth, email, phone number, and address. For some regions you may also need to provide a tax ID and answer a short questionnaire.

  4. 4

    Submit and wait

Most verifications complete automatically in under 2 minutes. You will see a confirmation screen when verification succeeds.

  5. 5

    Start using the app

Once verified, you have full access to bank deposits, bank withdrawals, QR payments, and other features available in your region.

You can also use core features without any verification at all — browsing the app, viewing exchange rates, and depositing or withdrawing digital dollars to and from external wallets all work without completing verification.

What Data Is Collected

During verification, you provide the following information:

Everyone:

  • A photo of your identity document (front and back if applicable)
  • Full name, date of birth, email, tax identification number
  • Residential address

Some regions (e.g. Argentina, Brazil):

  • Tax identification number (e.g. CUIT, CPF) — required by local financial regulations
  • Short questionnaire: occupation, marital status, and regulatory declarations (PEP, FATCA)

This data is collected to comply with financial regulations in the regions where Peanut operates. Nothing beyond what is legally required is collected.

Your Data, Your Privacy

Peanut takes a privacy-first approach to verification:

  • Peanut never stores your identity documents. Your photos and personal details are processed and stored by a certified third-party verification provider — not by Peanut.
  • Peanut only receives a verification result — approved or rejected.
  • The verification provider is independently certified: SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR-compliant. It supports 14,000+ document types across 220+ countries.
  • You can request data deletion at any time under GDPR. Contact support to exercise this right.

Info

In short: your identity data lives with the verification provider, not with Peanut. Peanut stores only a reference ID and the verification result.

Features Unlocked by Region

Verification unlocks different payment methods depending on your region:

RegionWhat you unlock
United StatesACH bank deposits and withdrawals
Europe (SEPA zone)SEPA bank deposits and withdrawals
United KingdomFaster Payments deposits and withdrawals
MexicoSPEI bank deposits and withdrawals
ArgentinaBank transfers and Mercado Pago QR payments
BrazilPix payments

You can verify for multiple regions if needed.

If Verification Fails

There are two types of rejection:

Retry (you can fix it immediately):

  • Blurry photo — retake the photo in better lighting on a flat surface.
  • Expired document — use a valid, non-expired passport or national ID.
  • Name mismatch — the name on your document must match the name on your Peanut account.
  • Unsupported document type — only passports, national ID cards, residence permits, and US driver's licenses are accepted.
  • Incomplete information — fill in all required fields in the personal details step.

When a retry is available, the app will show you the specific reason and a "Try again" button. You can resubmit immediately.

Final rejection (requires support):

  • Under 18 — you must be 18 or older to use the app.
  • Fraud or identity mismatch — if the verification provider determines the submission cannot be accepted, you will need to contact support.

If your submission goes to manual review, it typically takes 1 to 3 business days. You will be notified in the app once a decision is made.

Tip

Use a well-lit environment with no shadows across your document. Place the document on a dark, flat surface for contrast. Make sure all text and your photo on the document are clearly visible. Ensure the name on your account matches the name on your document exactly.
